Queerside Story
The Improvised Musical Format

Created by Blue Chu

Short Description

Queerside Story is a love story about two characters from two different worlds that fall in love at first sight.

It's a love story that does not perceive identities as barriers to love. These two character will go on a first date, and we will if there is connection, or maybe they are better off friends.

In the format, the audience will provide a suggestion to each team of two. The improvisers will then use the suggestion as an inspiration to create the world that the team resides in. After the worlds and initial characters have been created by the players. The audience will choose which member from each team will be the “lovers”. Then the lovers will meet, lock eyes and fall in love at first sight.

The audience will then choose whether the other teammate will be for or against the relationship. The final scene will be where the two lovers go on a date, but will they end up happily ever after or happily never after?

Hot tip: best played when gay.

Why Queerside Story

Blue Chu was inspired by the musical Westside Story and the idea that it was a love story of two lovers that come from two different background and how the different backgrounds created a barrier to their love story. This isn’t how it works in Queerside Story, which is an improvised musical where the worlds from which the two lovers resides do not interfere with the love story at all. The audience gets a say in the narrative, however, in the final date scene we honour the moment if the two lovers actually have a connection for love or just friendship. They other intention was to create stories of queer joy and play. All player are encourage to create love stories between characters based on their hearts not parts.
